What is Dry Needling?

Dry Needling is a form of therapy in which fine needles are inserted into ligaments, tendons, muscular trigger points, and near nerves in order to alleviate pain and stimulate healing. There are several types of dry needling.

Trigger point dry needling is used to reduce tension and pain in tight muscles that are limiting motion or causing pain. The needles are inserted and we will search for trigger points, similar to getting a massage and having pressure applied over knots or bound up muscles. A needle is able to go into that area and address the muscle right at the source of the problem.

Dry needling with electrical stimulation involves inserting needles and leaving them in place. It is then somewhat similar to a TENS unit or electrical stimulation with pads that are placed on the skin. However, instead the electrodes are hooked up to the needles so the stim goes down into the body to the source of the issue.
